As part of a project looking at the use of spreadhseets, Year 5&6 are running a Fantasy Football league amongst their class. The pupils had to choose 5 Premier League players (1 Goalkeeper and 4 Strikers) from a list with each player given a value. Each pupils was then given £20m (virtual money I must add...) to spend on their team following the given rules such as no pupils was allowed to buy two players from the same football club. It was also decided that in the interest of fairness that only Premier League games would count towards team points.

The class then decided upon the scoring system for their league. They decided upon the following:

If a player is picked to play they shall earn 2 points.
Yellow Card = -1
Red Card = -5
Goalkeeper keeps a clean sheet = 15
Goalkeeper concedes a goal = -3
Goalkeeper scores a goal = 20
Striker scores a goal = 5
Striker scores a hat trick = 20

The class needed to learn about the formulas needed to add together cells when using spreadsheets. They also needed to investigate what formula would be needed to add more than two cells together at once. Every Monday, a goup of pupils will be given a player score sheet from the weekend's football matches and will have the responsibility of updating the pupils team scores and creating the latest league table. To update the league table they will need to use their new found knowledge of how to sort data in a spreadsheet. Any games played during the week will be managed by Mr. Roberts.
